Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about starting teletherapy with Connected Roots Teletherapy LLC? You're in the right place. Below you'll find answers to the most common questions about working with Veronica Deglman, LMFT, and what to expect from online therapy in Minnesota.
Getting Started
What is teletherapy and how does it work?
Teletherapy is therapy that takes place online instead of in a physical office. We meet through secure video so you can join sessions from home, your office, or another private space in Minnesota. You'll receive a link through the Sessions Health client portal before each appointment. At your session time, you simply click the link, check your sound and video, and we'll meet face to face on screen.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults, couples, and families who are looking for a warm, grounded space to explore their experiences and relationships. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, stress, anxiety, family or partnership concerns, grief, or feeling stuck in old patterns. We'll work together at a pace that feels respectful and supportive to you.
Do I have to live in Minnesota?
Yes. I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Minnesota. Because of licensing laws, I can only see clients who are physically located in Minnesota at the time of each session, even if you normally live in another state. If you travel out of state, we'll pause sessions or adjust scheduling until you're back in Minnesota.
How do I schedule my first appointment?
You can schedule directly through the Sessions Health client portal. From there, you'll be able to view available times and request an appointment. After you schedule, you'll receive intake paperwork, consent forms, and information about how to join your first session.
If you have questions before booking, you're welcome to reach out by phone at (320) 335-6443 or through the contact form so we can talk about what you're looking for and whether we might be a good fit.
Services & Sessions
What types of therapy do you offer?
I offer individual, couples, and family therapy, all online for clients in Minnesota. I also offer intake and diagnostic assessments to help us understand your needs and goals. Together, we'll decide which service is the best fit for you right now, and we can always adjust as life and relationships shift.
How long are sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are 53–55 minutes. This gives us time to check in, explore what's coming up for you, and wrap up in a way that feels grounding rather than rushed.
How often will we meet?
Most people start with weekly sessions to build momentum and trust. Over time, some clients move to every other week or a different rhythm that fits their life, needs, and budget. We'll talk together about what frequency feels supportive for you and adjust as we go.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, your hopes and concerns, and any history that feels important. I'll ask questions to understand your story and we'll discuss what you'd like to focus on moving forward. You're always welcome to share at your own pace—we don't have to cover everything at once.
We'll also go over policies, confidentiality, and what teletherapy looks like so you know what to expect and can feel as comfortable as possible in the process.
Rates & Payment
What are your rates?
Current session fees are:
- Individual Therapy: $150 per session
- Couples Therapy: $175 per session
- Family Therapy: $200 per session
- Intake / Diagnostic Assessment (DA): $200
Rates reflect the time we spend together in session, preparation and planning outside of session, and the ongoing training and supervision that support this work.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently operate as a private pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. Many clients appreciate the added privacy and flexibility this can offer, including more choice in the length, frequency, and focus of our work together.
If you have out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be able to submit documentation to your insurance company for partial reimbursement. I'm happy to provide the paperwork you need for that process.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes information your insurance company typically needs if you're seeking out-of-network reimbursement. It lists dates of service, fees, diagnosis codes (if applicable), and other required details.
After you pay for sessions, I can provide a superbill that you submit directly to your insurance company. They will review it and let you know whether they will reimburse you and at what rate. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, and you are responsible for communicating with your insurance plan about your benefits.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected costs of your care. This is a written estimate of fees for services you may receive, based on the information we have at the time.
Your Good Faith Estimate will outline the type of services, the current rates, and a projected range of how many sessions you might attend over a period of time. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, so the actual number of sessions may be more or less than the estimate, but you'll have clear information up front about costs.
Confidentiality & Privacy
Is teletherapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is an essential part of the therapy relationship. I follow the same laws and ethical standards for teletherapy as I would for in-person therapy. What you share in session is confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions that we'll talk about in our first meeting (for example, concerns about immediate safety).
To help protect your privacy, I ask that you join sessions from a quiet, private location where you feel comfortable speaking freely. Using headphones can also add an extra layer of privacy on your end.
What platform do you use for sessions? Is it secure?
Sessions are held through the secure Sessions Health platform. It is designed specifically for mental health care and meets HIPAA standards for privacy and security. Your session link and any messages through the client portal are encrypted to help keep your information safe.
Logistics
What do I need for a teletherapy session?
For most people, a few simple things are enough:
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone
- A private, comfortable space in Minnesota where you can talk freely
- Headphones, if possible, for added privacy and sound quality
It can also help to have a glass of water or tea nearby and a few minutes before and after session to settle in and transition back to your day.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 24 hours before your session time. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged the full session fee, except in cases of emergency or circumstances we discuss together.
You can manage your appointments through the Sessions Health portal, or you can contact me directly if something unexpected comes up.
How do I contact you between sessions?
For scheduling changes, brief updates, or questions about paperwork, you can contact me through the Sessions Health portal or by phone at (320) 335-6443. I do my best to respond within 1–2 business days.
Because it's important to protect your privacy and boundaries, I don't provide therapy or crisis support by email, text, or phone between sessions. If you are in crisis or need immediate help, please call 988, contact your local crisis line, or go to the nearest emergency room.
Still have questions?
If you're not sure whether teletherapy is right for you, or you didn't see your question answered here, you're warmly invited to reach out. I'm happy to talk through your concerns and help you decide on next steps that feel right for you.
